We've been fans of higher thread count clincher tires for a long time. The newsteam has used a number of Vittoria products over the years both tubular and clincher. A few years back when Vittoria released the original Diamante Pro (Pro being the Vittoria folks designation for 'folding') we were very impressed. A 220 TPI thread count gave it a very supple ride, maybe not quite as smooth as their flagshipo Corsa Open tubular series, but still very nice. Plus the tire had a more durable rubber compound, allowing a rider to get training mileage on a tire that was race worthy. This weekend's scheduled race at Lake Afton, near Wichita has been cancelled, but flyers are arriving for a nice full schedule leading up to Nationals. Wednesday nights riders are still gathering at Herman Laird Park in Shawnee for a little "under the lights" 'cross practice. Current rumor is the upcoming Boulevard Cup will use the same course as the National Championship. Stay tuned. Chris Locke and fellow promoters have banded together to produce a six race local cyclocross series. In addition to individual race prizelists there will be overall awards. DeStad Van Kansas Cyclocross Series is presented by the folks at Paceline Products, local distributers of Maxxis Tires and Chamois butter. The series races are Chris Cross, the two races of the Riverside Cross Festival, Roger Harrison's new event at St. Mary's University, The Kansas State Championship and The Grote Prijs Shawnee.
