Chamois Butt'r Eurostyle Review

There's plenty of room for bad puns ready made for Chamois cremes. Back in the day when some of the staff at Localcycling.com started racing a lot of stuff you sat on was made of real leather. Treating the chamois with some kind of softner was essential. In today's world and synthetic things to sit on, it seems a less likely need. However, staff of both genders at localcycling have tried this product and found it quite beneficial. Let's face it, sometimes 'team shorts' don't have the same comfort and quality of materials as those $200 supershorts. We started using Chamois Butt'r Euro style on a     Full Story

Vittoria Diamante Pro 2 Review

We've been fans of higher thread count clincher tires for a long time. The newsteam has used a number of Vittoria products over the years both tubular and clincher. A few years back when Vittoria released the original Diamante Pro (Pro being the Vittoria folks designation for 'folding') we were very impressed. A 220 TPI thread count gave it a very supple ride, maybe not quite as smooth as their flagshipo Corsa Open tubular series, but still very nice. Plus the tire had a more durable rubber compound, allowing a rider to get training mileage on a tire that was race worthy. We've recently tested the Diamante Pro 2, a slight upgrade over the original. The tires have that same supple…     Full Story

Darwin
Greenville Area News

Since he was dead when the sport of bicycle racing began, Charles Darwin could hardly have anticipated what a fine lens the sport of bicycle racing would provide into his theory of natural selection. (He died in 1882. It is believed that the first chain-driven bicycle was developed around 1885.)

Yet, those of us who race know there is nothing like a challenging race course to test the character and fitness of every racer.

For many years the US Professional Road Racing Championships were held in Philadelphia. The most selective feature of that course was an intense pitch known to just about all American professionals: the Manayunk Wall, which they tackled ten times in a 156 mile race. In the early days of the race, Manayunk was indeed selective. Very often the race would end with a solo rider throwing his arms up in the air.

In recent years, however, the level of the entire US peleton has risen, much as it has on an international level in Milan-San Remo. In the old days the Cipressa and the Poggio would break up the field in that race, but now everyone is so strong that the odds each year are in favor of a field sprint victory.
