Vittoria Diamante Pro 2 Review

We've been fans of higher thread count clincher tires for a long time. The newsteam has used a number of Vittoria products over the years both tubular and clincher. A few years back when Vittoria released the original Diamante Pro (Pro being the Vittoria folks designation for 'folding') we were very impressed. A 220 TPI thread count gave it a very supple ride, maybe not quite as smooth as their flagshipo Corsa Open tubular series, but still very nice. Plus the tire had a more durable rubber compound, allowing a rider to get training mileage on a tire that was race worthy. We've recently tested the Diamante Pro 2, a slight upgrade over the original. The tires have that same supple…     Full Story

Epic Holiday Cyclocross Results
Kansas City Metro

Yesterday's Epic Holiday Cyclocross race lived up to it's moniker. A challenging course with sketchy frozen (and muddy) corners was groomed and taped by volunteers on Saturday (definitely an 'epic' job). The venue, Tuileries Plaza, featured a combo of cobbled Euro style streets, a single runup (no barriers needed because of the slippery conditions) and plenty of twists on the turf. Plenty of racers considered their race 'epic'. A number of news crews, including local television, came out to the village like venue to cover the action.

Bruce Edwards captures a lot of the fun in this gallery.

Sunday January 6th is the final local race for this cyclocross season: The Grote Prijs Shawnee. The Grote Prijs is the final event of the De Stad Van Kansas Cyclocross Series and also features a village style coures in Herman Laird Park (Old Shawnee Town). Expect free beer from the Boulevard folks and lots of great racing.

Cyclocross Season Continues
Kansas City Metro

This weekend features a new cyclocross race, The Epic Holiday Cyclocross. The event will be held at the Tuileries Plaza in the Northland of Kansas City. The venue is about 1/2 mile west of I-29 on Highway 45. Highway 45 is also named Tom Watson Parkway. And while we don't have racing every day of the week during the holiday break like in Belgium, we continue the season to the Grote Prijs Shawnee held in Herman Laird Park on January 6th. Herman Laird Park is on Johnson Drive in Shawnee between Nieman and Quivira (it is also the site of "Old Shawnee Town"). The Grote Prijs is the final event of the De Stad Kansas Cyclocross Series and is a very popular event.

Following the local races a number of metro area athletes are heading off to Belgium for the UCI Masters Cyclocross World Championships. The localcycling.com crew may have room for an additional person in the posse headed to Mol. If you're interested give This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it a shout.

What Keeps Us Going
Kansas City Metro

As we finish up another year of localcycling news for the Kansas City area, we'd like to point out the supporters of our site. Our advertisers are all important partners in our cycling community. We encourage you to click and visit (online or in person!) the businesses that believe in the importance of bicycling in our metro.

Some of the things these great folks do: Epic Bike and Sport is sponsoring the upcoming Holiday Cyclocross on December 30th. Scooters Coffee Shawnee hosts a great weekly ride every Saturday. Paceline Products help many local rides and races with items such as Chamois Butter and Maxxis Tires. Tienda Casa Paloma is the host restaraunt for a year round Monday Night No-Drop ride. Gina Poertner of Life Balance stood out in the cold this weekend at the National Cyclocross Championships as a volunteer. Matt Eastlack of Famous Dave's BBQ helped feed those volunteers (and raced the event). Bella Vita Italia Vacations is the brainchild of our teammate and super nice guy Mark Studnicki.  AND if you dig what we do enough to show our colors, we offer Localcycling.com gear. Great gifts from all the above for the Holidays.
