This weekend features two rounds of The DeStad Cyclocross Van Kansas Series at Riverside. Just around the corner on November 10th is the GP Velotek banquet and silent auction fundraiser. The Kansas Cycling Association annual meeting will be held on November 18th. These are the folks that help train and schedule Officials for the full racing season. One issue of importance is a current shortage of working Officials. Here are the complete results from Sunday's Boulevard Cup.

And now a word from our sponsors. Our loyal advertisers let us bring you the local cycling news. We've recently added several new sponsors as well as some long term supporters. Please visit them online or in person and check out what they have to offer. They have the same passion for cycling as our readership and definitely appreciate your business.

Think it's hard to do those indoor trainer/roller workouts for an hour? Brendan Sheehan completed a fundraising 24 hour trainer ride covering over 300 miles. Roger Harrison has pics here.

The rescheduled Breast Cancer Awareness ride begins at 10a.m. from the Trek Bicycle Store of KC (join the ride for coffee at 9:30 at  Scooters).

Thers is a Scott Smith memorial ride/walk/run at the downtown airport at 10:00. a.m.
The ride is short - 4 miles - no cost to participate (donations are welcome -for his children's college fund and Habitat for Humanity). Scott Smith was an avid cyclist. On 9/20/2007 while on a bike ride Scott had a heart attack and died.  Scott was 50 years old and is survived by his wife and two teenage children.  This is a good quote about him: "Scott was the  type of person that we could all aspire to be more like.  He touched all who knew him."

Localcycling.com team member Jeff Unruh is on the radio this weekend talking about cyclocross and other things cycling. Jeff is also the promoter of the upcoming Capitol Cross in Topeka. Catch him tomorrow morning  in the studio at 7:30 A.M.  on 97.3 FM.

Starting Monday October 15th: The Localcycling.com news team (Mark Thomas and Teresa Jarzemkoski) are leading the Monday night ride from a new location! Tienda Casa Paloma at 82nd and Metcalf. This is an EZ, explorative ride, no fixed routes (we'll choose a theme and direction weekly). No racing, no losing people. Road bikes appropriate (but bring anything you'd like). We keep everyone together for about an hour, this is a no-drop ride. Expect to do something different. If you are a racer and want a real recovery on Mondays this would be dandy. AND afterwards join us for a Cerveza and great food. Starts at 6:30 PM. Lights required front and rear till spring after daylight savings time resumes.
Info at www.localcycling.com

This week only, the Wednesday night cyclocross will not be held at Herman Laird Park in Shawnee. We wish to give one of our favorite parks a one week rest. Instead we're suggesting heading up north on THURSDAY to Chris Locke's 'cross training ride in Riverside. Details here.

Boss Cross is back, here's the flyer. The new venue at St. Mary's University for Lanterne Rouge Cyclocross looks very cool. Check out the flyer and some preview here on the the De Stad Cyclocross Van Kansas Series site. Also note that head honcho Chris Locke has added additional Masters categories.

The Wednesday cyclocross training ride will begin at Herman Laird Park in Shawnee tonight, but just to keep the Park from overuse, will head over to 71st Terr and Bond to the powerline cut. Check it out on Mapquest.

Mark Breeding has loaded up lots of new photos (including Octoginta Time Trial) at http://www.northriverphotography.com/ The Kansas City Bicycle Club is taking orders for a fine looking new jersey. Check out their page here and note that the combined JCBC/KCBC picnic is this weekend.
