Teresa and Joel will probably tell you it's too muddy to ride offroad at Shawnee Mission Park tonight. You're encouraged to join up for the hill fest that leaves the Trek Store at 6:30 as an alternative. Fast road.

This weekend you can bounce around on those freshly updated trails at Shawnee Mission Park on the new line of Trek mountain bikes during the "Ride The Best" Demo event. Want to find out if dual suspension is better than a '29er? Here's a chance to compare on some very cool trails. Or you can play on the newest and fastest road bikes at the Friday pavement demo or spin 'em around the Park on Saturday. Models available to get dirty or get fast on: Gary Fisher Fat Possums, Rigs, Geds, King Fishers, Super Calibers and X-Calibers plus Trek EX9's and EX9 WSD's, Madone's, Pilots, Remedys, Sessions and Sohos.

Sunday features the Jesse Blancate Time Trial, a great final tuneup before the Kansas Time Trail Championship. The flyers for the upcoming Missouri Road Race and Time Trial Championships are available. At the Missouri Time Trial Masters Categories will be held for all riders 30+ in 5 year increments/both genders. Criterium info should be available soon.

And don't forget you can join the localcycling news team for a ride and a cup of joe on Saturday from Scooters Coffee of Shawnee.

Alice, Dan and Joel wonder how much wine this crazy team is gonna drink.
Team Trekbicycleofkc/localcycling.com held a presentation party last evening. The event was well attended by team members and supporters. Several sponsors gave presentations after Slimenundgrossen (the host club for the team) president Mark Thomas introduced the 2006 team. Food and wine and new uniforms kept the festivities lively. Title sponsor Trek Bicycle Store of KC has launched a new blogsite with coverage of last nights party and info on next weeks upcoming "Demo Day" events, where you can test ride some cutting edge product.

2006 USA Cycling Collegiate Nationals - Thank you!
The fact that Kansas has placed athletes on the podium two years in a row has put the national cycling community on notice! (Brian Jensen, 3rd place in the 2005 road race; Mark Smelser, 1st place in the 2006 criterium).
While serving as both the promoter of the event and coach for KU Cycling, I recognize that people throughout the nation note that Kansas is creating the "big picture" in competitive cycling.  Our state has a nationally recognized junior program directed by Jim Whittaker and GP Velotek.   We've now successfully hosted the national championships two years in a row.  And locally, both the developing juniors and collegiate athletes have seen how Brian Jensen turned pro and Mark Smelser earned the stars and stripes jersey.
By combining these grassroots developments, hosting nationals, and generating national champions, Kansas is becoming a comprehensive "elite pipeline" in the eyes of many people.
After reviewing the extensive list of volunteers and support personnel that were involved in hosting the National championships over the weekend, there is an approximate 4:1 ratio of support personnel for every athlete that participates in an event with the magnitude of Collegiate Nationals.  Approximately 430 athletes converged in Lawrence last weekend, and nearly 1,100 people helped shaped the event in varying degrees.
On behalf of USA Cycling, their Collegiate Board of Directors, and the Lawrence Sports Corporation, thank you to the many people of Lawrence, Kansas City, Topeka and all areas of Northeast Kansas for helping create a successful event and experience of a lifetime for so many athletes.
    Sincerely,
    Christopher Hess
Promoter, 2006 USA Cycling Collegiate Road Nationals
