Sunday's Boss Cross Two delivered everything promised. A harder more technical course, some winter weather and lots of fun. Check out Roger Harrison's photos here and the results. While the Hawk Cross race in Lawrence is cancelled, if weather permits there will be a Wednesday practice session on the Epic Holiday Cyclocross course this week. There will likely be opportunites this weekend with Show and Go cyclocross in Kansas City, plus the Missouri Championships in Hermann.

Expect another round of classic Kansas City weather at the Nationals.

Boss Cross 3 returns on December 28th for the starting race of the holiday week of cyclocross including the New Year's Eve race ('Cross Off The Old Year) and Epic Holiday Cyclocross. Series60 and the local season wraps up with the Grote Prijs Shawnee on January 11th. A few area riders will be heading to the UCI Masters Worlds January 24th. AND we might see at least one area rider at the UCI Elite/U23/Juniors Worlds in Hoogerheide, NL the following week.

Hawk Cross UPDATED PDF Print E-mail
Cycling News

Thursday, 27 November 2008

We did a little digging and found the basics for the upcoming cyclocross race in Lawrence on the Day of Infamy: Hawk Cross a.k.a Campus Cross. This should be a cool venue. UPDATE 11/29: Unfortunately we just received word that Hawk Cross has been cancelled.

Better news: Jeremy Haynes dropped by the newsdesk today. The Platte City course is ready to go for tomorrow, Nationals venue is dialed, and his Boss Cross 3 returns to Parkville. PLUS the pending flyers for the final three Series60CX events will be posted in the next few hours; including a fresh new race on New Year's Eve. Yup, that's a Wednesday, but with an afternoon start, so even if you can wangle a half day you can 'cross off the old year with a cyclocross party.

Wallace To Belgium! PDF Print E-mail

The localcycling.com newsdesk got pretty excited this afternoon. Local KCCX/Verge rider Chris Wallace has been selected for the Euro Cross Camp, an intensive developmental program to help refine the best cyclocross racers from the U.S.A.

Mr. Wallace is currently leading the USGP Series for Juniors 17-18 years old. The camp is located in the heartland of the cyclocross world: Belgium.

The localcycling.com news team would like to congratulate Chris, and his mentors at the KCCX/Verge program, particularly Mr. Bill Marshall for this accomplishment. AND we would encourage our cyclocross community to give Chris and the Wallace family a hand in sending him 'over the pond' with a donation.

Mini-editorial: Jeremy Haynes published a short recap on his Boss Cross page about the local history and development of 'cross. He touched on plenty of the pieces (and the Boss Cross Series is an important one), but there are lots more: Kansas City has had 3 Cyclocross National Championships in this decade. Many, many folks poured love and effort into developing a thriving cyclocross scene;more than I can remember or name. Mike Berning and Teresa Jarzemkoski have energized clinics for newbies, accomplished riders and women specific. Chris Locke and crew amped up series racing to a new standard. Roger Harrison showed us what quality equipment can do for an event. Before that we had Mike Hudson fostering State Championships and Curtis Martel giving us "Pure 'Cross. There are tons of connections and components that have brought us to where we are today: launching a new generation of elite cyclocross racers from right here!

Jeremy Haynes reports an update on the Boss Cross site (plus a bit of history). This weekend's Boss Cross 2 is in Platte City.

It's getting down to the wire for Hawk Cross in Lawrence on December 7th, but our sources tell us that a cool course has been developed on the KU campus.

The Epic Holiday Cyclocross course will be open for a preview (and there will be a preregistration opportunity with incentives) on December 3rd. Watch for details.

There's a lot going on with the run-up to the 2008 Cyclocross National Championship here in Kansas City: The SRAM folks are providing neutral support, the EXPO is starting to fill up, fun events like the Mud and Blood Ball (with a screening of the Zero Traction film), and cool souvenier merchandise. Also there are some nice reward incentives for volunteering. Check out the official site here.

Here's the info on the weekend's KanBikeWalk meeting:

"the state-wide bicycling and pedestrian advocacy
organization, is having their annual meeting on November 22nd in
Topeka,
and anyone interested in advocacy is encouraged to attend.

There is a also a pre-meeting bike ride around the city.

This is a great chance to learn about advocacy efforts in Kansas and to
meet some of the people involved in making Kansas a safer place to
ride,
run, and walk. It's also an opportunity to become involved yourself.
