Localcycling.com sponsors two weekly rides that have required lights for the last few months. Starting tonight, the Monday Night Recovery ride from Casa Paloma should be able to sqeak in without lights, but it's wise to keep them on for a couple of weeks just to be sure. Our Wednesday Night Hill Ride, which starts from a new location for 2008 (Bates City BBQ at 65th and Quivira) will keep it to two big climbs for the first couple of weeks to try to beat the darkness. After that, we'll do the full Monty. Note that the new start, while on last year's course, gives us an easier path through the neighborhood traffic PLUS good food and drink. Check our 'Upcoming Rides and Races' Section for full details. |

We think this is an indicator of how healthy cycling is in the metro: Over the last year several new bicycle shops have opened up around town. Epic Bike and Sport is a Specialized Concept Store located North of the river. Volker Bicycles is rolling on 39th Street in KCMO with plenty of gear for the fixie crowd. And Family Bicycles on Wornall is focusing on practical bikes for everyday travel. We have also picked up rumors of at least one other shop expanding to a second location. JUST IN: "The rumors are true. Cycle City is opening its second location at 291 and I-35 in Liberty. We will be opening this Monday 3/10 with the Grand Opening on Saturday 3/15." Check our LINKS section for the full list of area shops. |
