Some quick updates on Tour of Missouri local happenings: Liquigas professional team will be at Cycle City on Prairie View road on Sunday September 7th at 5:00pm to do an autograph signing. Members from the team will be there for about 1 hour signing jerseys, photos and anything else they can put a sharpie to. Check out www.cyclecitykc.com for address and more details. The Missouri Bicycle Federation and Kansas City Bicycle Club are going to offer free valet bike parking at the ToM Expo on the Plaza, from Noon to 6pm. They also need volunteers to help staff the parking operation: http://kcbike.info/2008/09/03/volunteers-needed-for-bike-parking-at-tour-of-missouri/ And of course that means YOU can ride your bicycle to the event. |

Cyclocross races go forward in all types of weather, but we've got to be kind to our limited local venues. Tonight's Cyclocross Clinic at Herman Laird Park in Shawnee is a 'no go'. With plenty of wet weather still on the way, we'll all have to wait until next week to play at this park. The Women's Clinic portion will be postponed until next Wednesday too, but will feature the same great instruction and raffle opportunities. |

It may be a short work week, but it's long on cycling events! Tuesday NEET Training Criteriums continue tonight through the end of the month, light permitting. On Wednesday, have lunch with Lance! The evening marks the official start of cyclocross season with the first clinic at 5:30pm in Herman Laird Park. (Johnson Drive at Cody, 66203) The clinic is a great tool for new and seasoned racers alike. There will be some special prizes (Race Entries, Boulevard Swag) from KCOI/Boulevard raffled for the Women's Clinic Same date, same Starting location as everyone else...we'll just ride off to another spot for our clinic after registration. Thursday is the final NEET Gardner Time Trial. 10K of lung searing lactate threshold fun. (These are good training for cyclocrossers, too!) Saturday is the St. Joe Team Time Trial. Online registration for this event ends Thursday, Sept 4th. Also on Saturday are Parkville's Festival of Bikes and Blues and day 1 of the Missouri Ride to Stop MS. Sunday you can road race in St. Joe, or finish the Ride to Stop MS. You can also Ride the Route of Champions, please preregister if you can, to help with headcounts for breakfast and beer! Remember to take at least a half day NEXT MONDAY...for Stage 1 of the Tour of Missouri and the Professional Women's Criterium on the Plaza! The fun starts at noon...racing at 12:30 for the Men, 1:00 for the women. |

Yes, the crazy folks at localcycling.com are ready to jump off of perfectly good bikes! Much of the conversation at the Team Party night at Epic Bike and Sport last evening contained words like, "barriers, clearance, veldrijden, sand" and the like.
Watch for a complete guide to the Metro's cyclocross scene this weekend. |
