Brendan Sheehan and folks kept local 'crossers breathing hard at the tough Haven's Park venue. Some technical corners made for a few biffs, but warm coffee and chili, cool awards and Rogers martial music soothed those who crashed.

The KLM Marketing folks have informed the Localcycling.com newsdesk that beer will be provided at the upcoming UCI/Kansas/Missouri State Championship weekend. Everyone knows that watching cyclocross is even more fun with your favorite beverage. Athletes should also note that if you're planning on racing the Mens Elite class on Saturday you will need a UCI license. And ALL racers, including those in the state championships events will need to preregister. Check the official website for details.
Riders from Team Slimenundgrossen spotted the full GP Velotek squad in western Shawnee today. Coach Jim Whittaker was sheperding some tykes on bikes that were barely off training wheels. All looking like future pros.
Rumor around the newsroom is that a new cyclocross race will be added to the local calendar on January 8th. The same riders that spotted the Velotek team were out scouting a fresh venue for the event. Several folks heading to the UCI Masters Cyclocross World Championship in Mol, Belgium have expressed the need for a tuneup race in January. Other riders say they just can't get enough 'cross. The first local race of 2006 just might be a fresh cylcoross event. |

Lance Armstrong was hanging around Kansas City this cold Wednesday. Mr. Armstong was spotted at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. We hope the seven timer brought plenty of warm gear in case he's tempted to go for a spin. |

Cyclocross racing resumes in Leavenworth with another edition of the hilly Haven's Park event. Roger Harrison continues to add incentives for kids (and military women). Brendan Sheehan's Santa Fe Trails Bicycle and Coffee is title sponsor. With the shift towards wintery weather the warm java will be appreciated by racers and spectators. Check the calender section for the race flyer. |
