Coming up: Flint Hills Express

Around the Kansas City Metro, May could be designated as Time Trial Month. First we have the Kansas Masters State Championship TT on a hilly course near Auburn. Then it's the Jesse Blancarte Memorial 10K on classic Gardner course. The folks signed up for the Corporate Challenge race a shorty around the Kansas Speedway. On the 29th it's the Capps-Rebound 20K near Topeka. Continuing on into June, on the 5th, it's the Epic TT again at Gardner.

Join the Localcycling sponsored ride at Tienda Casa Paloma (82nd and Metcalf) tonight for our weekly "no drop" recovery ride and a few Cervazas to celebrate 5/5. Ride starts at 6:30 PM. Check out the details in our "Upcoming Rides and Races".
As we write this on Saturday afternoon, Lawrence resident Brian Jensen, is in the break at today's Sea Otter race. You can check out live coverage here at cyclingnews.com

Here's something you can do to help make the metro a better place to ride: Show up on Friday at the Paseo Bridge groundbreaking.

Also, check out our friend Noah's blog. He writes a lot about his adventures as a bike commuter. Noah also joins us on our Monday Night Recovery Ride from Casa Paloma. The ride is designed to be bunches of fun AND help educate about using your bike for rec and utility.

Mother Natures says no for this weekend, but the Heartland folks are working it out. Details here.

Bob Roll (Bobke) always tells an interesting story. From Dan Hughes at Sunflower Outdoor and Bike in Lawrence:

"Just a quick reminder that Friday night is the big shindig
down at Sunflower with Bob "Bobke" Roll. It starts at 7PM and there's
Free State Beer to boot. Bobke & beer...what could be better than that?"

Some of ths reporter's fave films are by Stanley Kubrick. But with the exception of a BigWheel rolling around a scary old hotel he didn't do much on the topic of cycling. Here's your chance to remedy that: KC Bicycle Film Festival.

Beautiful weather for the first metro bicycle race of 2008, which was also the final local event of the 2007-2008 cyclocross calendar and the DeStad Van Kansas Cyclocross Series. Roger Harrison kept the crowds entertainied on the mic and Boulevard 'Sixth Glass' ale refreshed everyone.

Roger Harrison photos are here.  A little video here. AND some more great shots by Heather Taylor here. We should have more pictures today and final series calculations soon.
